Quad Citians Affirming Diversity brings gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender and straight people together to build an inclusive community
through support, education and advocacy.
Support groups are available for
our teens, young adults, adults and seniors. Go to Events and
Calendar page for details.
QCAD seeks to educate our
community regarding sexual orientation issues and advocates for an
inclusive community. Advocacy and education are provided through
speakers, workshops, trainings and informal presentations to schools,
social service agencies, religious institutions and civic organizations.
Currently
QCAD is
spearheading a Quad City Collaborative to Support a
Bully-Free Community. The collaborative is bringing together
representatives from all school districts, non-profits, court services and
the business community.
QCAD has also
initiated a program to sensitize Quad City area senior service
providers on the needs of their GLBT clients. Many GLBT seniors have
remained closeted most of their lives and are hesitant and unsure about
where they would be welcome and how to seek assistance. Many living in
care facilities report that they have been disrespected, shunned, or
mistreated. QCAD, through this program entitled Project Visibility,
seeks to create a service community
that is informed, sensitive to, and
supportive of GLBT elders and their families.
